MIAMI, January 29, 2024 – The Health Foundation of South Florida, with a legacy of serving South Florida for more than 30 years and investing over $145 million to make our region healthier for all, is proud to announce the appointment of a dynamic and diverse group of new members to its Board.
Committed to advancing health and well-being across South Florida, the new board members bring a wealth of expertise, leadership experience, and passion to guide the Foundation’s mission to improve the health of South Florida communities, with a focus on vulnerable, low-to-moderate-income populations.

Meet the New Board Members
Alfred G. Battle Jr., Deputy Director for the Development Services Department in the City of Fort Lauderdale brings over ten years of experience in community redevelopment, economic development, housing and urban planning. He is a proven senior-level public service professional who has successfully led policy changes and projects benefiting underserved communities.
David J. Clark, Senior Vice President of Operations at Broward Health System, is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of safe, high-quality patient services across the hospital district. His expertise spans healthcare administration, major capital planning, growth strategy, and fiscal management. Clark is experienced in transformational leadership, cultural shifts, influencing decisions, and implementing change management.
Alexander M. Fernandez, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, oversees the company’s finance, accounting, and investor relations functions. A member of Leadership Florida’s Cornerstone Class 40, Fernandez shapes the healthcare finance landscape with leadership, dedication, and a commitment to public service.
