More than 18,000 older adults in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties have benefitted from programs offered through the Foundation’s Healthy Aging Regional Collaborative

Sixteen nonprofit organizations throughout Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties received grants of up to $284,000 from Health Foundation of South Florida to help older adults stay healthy and independent. Through a five-year $7.5 million initiative of the Foundation, the Healthy Aging Regional Collaborative, the organizations offer nationally-recognized, prevention programs focused on chronic disease self-management, falls prevention, depression and physical activity.

According to Health Foundation of South Florida’s Chairwoman Divina Grossman, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, “The Foundation works with community partners to support programs that are designed to promote and preserve the health of older adults.” She added, “Since the Collaborative was launched in 2008, more than 18,000 older adults in South Florida have benefitted from the evidence-based healthy aging programs.”

The grants total $1,244,951 and were awarded to the following nonprofit organizations:

In Miami-Dade County, grants totaling$589,745 were awarded to 11 lead agencies: Alliance for Aging, Community Health of South Florida, Cuban American National Council, Independent Living Community Services, Jessie Trice Community Health Centers, Jewish Community Services of South Florida, Key Biscayne Community Foundation, Little Havana Activities & Nutrition Centers, Open Door Health Center, South Florida V.A. Foundation and YMCA of Greater Miami.

In Broward County, grants totaling $ 585,706 were awarded to four organizations: Areawide Council on Aging, Broward Regional Health Planning Council, South Florida V.A. Foundation and the YMCA of Broward County. In Monroe County, $69,500 was awarded to Florida Keys AHEC.
