MIAMI, FL –March 12, 2018- Health Foundation of South Florida recently re-elected Thao M.P. Tran, M.D., M.P.H. as chairwoman along with J. Everett Wilson, Esq. as Vice Chairman and elected Melida Akiti, LCSW as Secretary of the 2018 Board of Directors. The Board leads the largest philanthropy dedicated to improving health in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, with a focus on vulnerable populations.

“As the landscape for building better health in our communities is rapidly changing, Health Foundation of South Florida takes great care and diligence in identifying key community leaders to serve on our Board, said Health Foundation President & CEO Steven Marcus, Ed.D. Thao M.P. Tran, M.D., M.P.H., who has served on the Foundation Board since 2012, was re-elected to a second term as Chairwoman. By employing her wide range of operational expertise in the academic, clinical and public healthcare sector, Dr. Thao Tran has been instrumental in leading the Foundation into the next stage of its work. Dr. Tran, who is a healthcare consultant as well as the Medical Director of Keiser University’s Graduate School Physician Assistant Program, is a visionary and thoughtful leader who builds on the great energy of the Board and staff to advance the Foundation’s mission to improve the health of South Florida communities.

Everett Wilson, Esq., who has served on the Foundation Board since 2015, was re-elected as Vice Chairman. Mr. Wilson, a Partner with Akerman LLP, a leading national law firm, is an experienced healthcare regulatory and M&A attorney. His thorough understanding of the healthcare industry, from both a business and legal perspective, has been a valuable asset to the Foundation and its mission to improve the health of the community through policies and funding which are in alignment with the latest industry trends and responsive to its ever changing challenges and opportunities.

Melida Akiti, LCSW, who joined the Foundation Board in 2014, was elected Secretary. Melida Akiti is Vice President, Ambulatory and Community Services for Memorial Healthcare System, which reaches over 636, 544 South Broward residents. She is a recognized leader in the health field with a special focus on ensuring vulnerable populations have access to quality services. Melida Akiti’s deep knowledge of the health care system and empathetic leadership have been indispensable to the Foundation.
