Advancing Health Equity Through Academic Partnerships

Florida Health Justice Project (FHJP)

The Health Foundation of South Florida is reinforcing its commitment to health equity and access to care in our communities by supporting innovative projects and organizations that address urgent needs. One such organization is the Florida Health Justice Project (FHJP), which focuses on protecting and expanding healthcare coverage for vulnerable adults, children, and families in Florida.

Founded in 2017, FHJP has assisted individuals who have lost Medicaid, brought litigation to challenge State Medicaid termination notices, sought models across Florida to expand coverage, and conducted a public awareness campaign encouraging Floridians to complete Medicaid renewals.

This project addresses the critical “unwind” of Medicaid coverage, confronting the challenges posed by eligibility changes and ensuring that those most at risk don’t lose their healthcare. FHJP’s comprehensive approach—utilizing research, outreach, policy advocacy, and more—has already facilitated substantial wins, positively impacting thousands of lives.
