Public Policy

The Foundation prioritizes the following public policy priorities to achieve its goals within the Oral Health Priority Area:

• Support the expansion of practices of dental hygienists in public health settings to be able to conduct tasks included but not limited to the application of fluoride varnishes and dental sealants without supervision or prior authorization of a dentist.

• Support the recruitment of dentists to work in public health settings by creating a licensure by credentials process for dentists from other states to practice in public health settings. An example would be allowing participating dentists to become eligible for a full FL dental license after a period of service of three years in FL’s underserved public clinics.

• Support reimbursement increases for Medicaid dental providers to a minimum of the 50th percentile of usual customary fees.
